From Pines to Castles

 Chapter Seventeen                                                          17

His fame was greater than ever now. It made him realize how much work he put into it. It was worth it and he was on his way to attain what he dreamed of; being the greatest A-list actor of his generation. However, now that he was close to obtaining his goal, his mindset was shifting. He was used to working almost non-stop and with very few weeks of rest in between projects. Since he committed to become the best, Sky was always extremely disciplined in his training and in his personal life. He did give himself some off time from the rigidity of his routine, but it was never for longer than a day unless he had to be less rigid in preparation for a specific role, or for a planned time off. He knew he didn’t want to change his routine yet; he had committed to it and many people depended on him. Maeva did not know exactly how much of a financial burden he had accepted. If he wished to retire one day, he would have to let go of a lot. Cars, houses, studios, and more. However, there were other properties he had to keep. He also wanted this land of his to become a ranch. He was planning to start with fixing up the stables and getting some horses in.

Now, he also had Maeva to think of and he felt good about her being fully part of his life as she accepted the type of life he needed to live at this moment in time. It was also a fact that he would not be able to hold up this routine for very much longer. He was getting older, and his values were becoming more family-like. A few years back, he always expressed that his dream was to start a family, but when it got to the point of acting on it, he never could. He was not yet ready to start doing that change. It was strange that, now that he found his soulmate, one who would support him fully in his decisions and self-imposed routine, he was unsure of wanting to continue the same work schedule. Surely, it was due to being with her, hearing what her values and dreams were, and how she wished to express herself in love and in life. It was slowly exerting some external pressure but, he felt it was also growing within him. Before meeting her, having a good training session made his whole day positive. Now it was spending quality time with her that made a day special. He was increasingly becoming like most people; he looked forward to his days off. He still enjoyed training, but it was not the only thing he needed anymore. Whilst in the past, he looked at this influence as deconstructive of his image, he now couldn’t understand how he didn’t see that his vision was warped. Bottom line, he needed to meet with his team and set a timeline for changes he would make to his career and personal life. His team knew that day would come. All teams working close to a celebrity expect this at one point. It is part of the job requirements. “Be ready to lose your job at any moment.” The difference for him is that his career was presently in full blast. It was not possible to slow it down just yet. He had some franchises humming around him, tantalizing him with unofficial offers that could turn official, or not, at any time. He had to keep it going, for now. If ever he had an inkling of the offers not going his way, he would immediately inform his team that he would relax his game. Sky wouldn’t deal with mediocrity. He would rather decide to retire or maybe choose a tele series that didn’t require to be gone in far away locations. If he chose to have a family, it meant staying close to home and being at home most of the time. But as he still didn’t know if a child would be in the cards for them, he would go on as is, for the time being. According to Maeva, it seemed a possibility, and sooner rather than later.

Wedding bells were to be heard in 3 days and all was ready for the couple to be married as planned on August 14. Jess said she had received all positive answers to the invitation cards and that Sky’s special celebrity guests were also attending. The press knew about the private wedding. Sky’s security team had to expand to be able to cover all entries and exits and ensure everyone’s safety. They were expecting helicopters but they already had the intent to use a tent to keep everyone cool. They would not be able to see much.

The tabloids and social media were already on fire with a few pictures that had been taken on the opera outing, but Sky and all his PR team refused to give Maeva’s name.  Op-eds were all about her white or gray hair and everyone was trying to guess who the mystery fiancée was. Contrary to the time before, where Sky outed his “new” girlfriend, there was no negative comments towards the engagement and the upcoming union. With Caroline, all her past media history that was not too flavory, resurfaced. There was no way of hiding your past, if it had been published on social media. Maeva didn’t have any other social media but her blog, which was a pseudonym. The anonymity this provided would not last very long. As soon as her novels became known, someone would find out who she really was. Her first novel would spark up in the charts as soon as the movie would hit the theatres, which would be in 6 to 8 months, or until post-production was done with it. Sky was slightly ambiguous about her anonymity. It was sad to see someone with such talent be kept in the dark. She would not be recognized for her immense work. Maeva wrote the book, but also did the script and, she also translated all her books to French or English according to what language she had originally written them in. Sky decided he might need to talk about it with her. In a way, it protected their relationship and no one would ever associate them. Otherwise, some might say she obtained the contracts because of his influence. Afterall, maybe he would just leave it as is.
